Money Trail aims to work with journalists to publish stories focused on tax abuse and grand corruption. Finance Uncovered offers mentoring and technical advice on story projects from expert journalists.
Here we showcase some of the stories we’ve supported. These are stories that were funded by a Money Trail grant for journalists, that were written with the support from Finance Uncovered, or that were written by former trainees of a Money Trail training.
As stories unfold, we will keep track of them and explain their impact: from follow ups in the media to any political response.
Civil society activists play a valuable role amplifying stories and they will often use evidence found by journalists to help shape policy demands and to promote change. In some cases, they also show that combatting illicit finance requires new laws and practices.
Oxfam Novib offers small grants for campaign spikes to civil society activists who follow up on Money Trail stories with policy and advocacy initiatives and/or campaign ‘spikes’ in their respective countries.
